Brian Michael Bendis’s 2016 Civil War 2 is a sequel to the original Civil War, although not directly – it just shares similar themes. Opposing sides due to conflict moral and philosophical views (Iron Man vs Captain Marvel) is again the core plot line surrounding what to do with a new Inhuman who can predict the future, Ulysses.
Civil War 2 takes places right before Marvel NOW! relaunch initiative but the aftermath does bleed into the new era. It is quite possible this could one day be integrated into the MCU due to the inclusion of Inhumans and Captain Marvel in recent years.
As usual with Marvel crossovers, the reading order is quite straightforward but the tie in trades can be hard to find sometimes. It is quite a large crossover with the total number of issues going to 149 spread around a whopping 30 trades.
There are 7 core issues to follow and the tie ins are optional but expand Bendis’s vision of Civil War II.
We start with a trade reading order and what you’ll need to get and then the issue by issue reading order which tells you what order to read each issue so that it is chronological.
